Are you Looking for a Dirty Weekend?

In my capacity as the president of the Rotary Club of Dungog I want to invite you to come to Dungog on the 26th & 27th May and participate in our inaugural Rotary Dungog Challenge, a 10-50-10 dirty duathlon. That is a 10Km cross country run followed by a 50Km mountain bike ride (1/3 dirt and 2/3 sealed) and finish with a 10Km cross country run. Race is on Sunday, team entries are welcome and there also is a 6Km Fun Run / Walk.There is camping and entertainment available and on Saturday we also have the Australian Bike Throwing Championships.

And a quick heads-up that a early bird registration discount is available right now!

I am excited to announce that we have drawn the lucky winner for the Ipad 2 which was the prize of our March Birthday celebrations. I am grateful I had the privilege of notifying the lucky winner and hearing the excitement and pleasure of winning the Ipad 2. It is with great pride here that I can report to have beaten my son Al at the above event last weekend 15/4/2012 by nearly 5 minutes. And more amazing is that I swam faster than him as well, nearly 2 minutes quicker in the 1500m swim leg. On the 40Km bike leg we both had the same result of 1 hour and 23 minutes, but on the 10Km run leg I ran 49 minutes and Al did it in 58 minutes.

It was a really big race with over 2000 comeptitors competing on the Sunday, the pro race was on the Saturday. The swim went from the Botanic gardens across to the Opera House, back to the Botanic gardens, back to the Opera House and the exit being at the steps in front of the Botanic gardens with a fair run back up to transition to get our bikes and we did 3 laps across the harbour bridge and down the Cahill Express Way before getting back to transition and running two laps from the Botanic gardens via St Mary’s church to just after Martins Place. The finish was on College street. Overall a very busy and big event that was well organised and good to compete in. For me as a country boy it all was a bit to big and busy and I’m happy that I did it however I don’t think I’ll do that one again to avoid the big crowds.

I ordered the Gamma Knobs‚ so happy with them, they arrived the next day‚I was just about to order a similar door knob through a retail outlet, and pay 13 times the prices / unit??? Overall time 6:02:00, 690 position, 27th in my category of 50-54

Splits:

• Swim – 45:14 – nearly 10 minutes faster then in training
• Ride – 3:07:16 – that’s an average of close to 30 K/h – very happy with that
• Run – 1:58:55 – pretty slow, I was more hoping for about 1:45, however my legs were shot after the ride

Al’s results:

Overall time 5:54:02, 622 position, 20th in his category of 18-24 of 69 entrants

Splits: Swim – 40:57, Ride – 3:03:32 and Run – 2:02:28

Total entrants in race 1,287 and 76 in my category. Category winner had a time of 4:52 – WOW. Average time was 6:01 in my category the overall race winners:

• Male: Tim Reed in 4:00:46
• Lisa MARANGON ¬†¬† in 4:24:41
