Question:
Hi,
I am interested in purchasing a lever handle and lock set for a study door at my home. I was looking at:
The door I am installing it on is a timber french door and the rail/style that it would be installed onto is only 74mm wide. Can you please tell me if this lever would be too wide for the style? Also, can you please tell me if the escutcheon plate is less than 74mm overall diameter? Finally – what thickness is the minimum that the door can be to fit the mortice lock into?
Thanks so much for your help.
Cheers,
Lyndon
Answer:
The standard mortice lock we stock has a backset of 57mm and requires a rebate into the door of 20mm Wide x 84mm Deep x 120mm Long and would not be suitable for this application, however we can order in for you the same mortice lock but with a backset of only 45mm, the rebate required for this lock is:
20mm Wide x 70mm Deep x 120mm Long
If you want to order one of these then please order the regular MLS7000 but please specify in your order comments that you require the lock with the 45mm backset, however be aware that it will take 2-3 weeks until you’ll receive your order.
So in the above case using a MLS7000 with a 45mm backset the lock will fit into the door and since the escutcheons have a diameter of 53mm they will extend to 71.5mm from front edge of the door, so all should just fit.
I would recommend a minimum door thickness of 35mm to have some “meat” left either side of the mortice lock rebate.
