How do I measure my existing handle?

by Wolf on 24/02/2010

Question:
I would like to replace existing kitchen handles – ie: the screw holes are allready in the door – what am I measuring? the distance between the screws or the total distance of the handle? I seem to have a smaller than the 96mm standard size between the two screws?, while the total length of my existing handle is 96mm – this is why I am asking.

Answer:
You need to measure from centre screw to centre screw. This is what we call centre to centre (C/C) and is the core measure you will require when deciding which handles will fit using your existing holes. To measure the C/C please open a cabinet door or draw and measure the distance from mid srew head to mid screw head. In most cases this will be 96mm. If you are a 1-2mm off either way then I would expect its a measuring issue rather then a different measure. Other standard sizes are 128mm, 160mm, 224mm and 320mm. If it’s not one of these measures then please see the FAQ on replacing handles with a non standard C/C.
